Anne Elliot, daughter of the vain Sir Walter Elliot, fell in love with and was engaged to a naval officer, Captain Wentworth when she was nineteen years old. Captain Wentworth don’t have a fortune and Anne was persuaded by her father and a family friend Lady Russel to break off the engagement.
Eight years later, Wentworth returns, rich and still unwed while the Elliot’s family have fallen on harder times. All the tension of the novel revolves around one question: Will Anne and Wentworth be reunited in their love?
Persuasion is the last fully completed novel by Jane Austen It was published at the end of 1817, six months after her death and is by many considered to be her most mature and greatest novel.
